Want to make matcha the traditional way? Here's what you'll need:
- Matcha green tea powder. Try Shade ceremonial grade.
- 1 oz teaspoon.
- Bamboo whisk
- Sifter
- Matcha mixing bowl
- Kettle. We recommend Fellow's Electric Tea Kettle.
- Teacup or tall glass
- Your choice of milk or water.
Step 1. Prepare everything you need
To enjoy the perfect cup of matcha, you'll need the right tools.
- Heat 6 oz water water to 180° F. You can either microwave the water for 30 seconds or use a kettle.
Step 2. Sift
Whether you plan to make a hot cup of matcha or a cold latte, you'll need to heat up some water and sift your matcha.
- Scoop 1/2 - 1 oz (~2g) of Shade matcha powder into your sifter above your whisking bowl.
- Using the spoon, spread the matcha through the sifter until the fine power falls into the whisking bowl.
- Pour 2 oz of 180° F water on top of your matcha powder in your bowl.
Step 3. Whisk
With your bamboo whisk, briskly whisking the matcha and water in a zig-zag pattern to create froth. Continue whisking until the matcha is thoroughly mixed into the water and no clumps remain. At this point, there should be a nice froth created on top.
Step 3. Serve
Matcha green tea is delicious hot or cold, just depends on your preference!
